Hwicce was kingdom in Anglo-Saxon England.

Details of the kingdom are sparse, even the origin of its name, but it is believed the kingdom was found in 577AD.

The precise area of the kingdom is uncertain but it is known to of covered most of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire, with parts of Oxfordshire and Wiltshire, including the cities Bristol and Bath.

Although not much is known of Hwicce, it was believed to be a place of power and education. With the people continuing with Roman culture and one of the first centres of Christianity in Britain.

This project aims to rediscover the ancient kingdom within the current landscape and ultimately search for something that may no longer be there.
