The South West

The South West of England is the largest region of England covering over 9000 sq miles, and has a population of 5.2 million. Consisting of the historic counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Bristol, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Home to 8 cities, 2 national parks, and 4 World Heritage Sites, the region is famous for it's folklore, tradition, heritage, and beauty, making it the perfect region to investigate the English landscape.

In modern times our landscape is brought into question much more frequently; how we try to preserve our heritage and natural aesthetic, but how we also try to utilise our land for new uses.

This project aims to comment on these changes to our land, and investigate whether our perspective on land heritage and tradition is changing, or if it is dependant upon the region, social class, or any other variable.

By investigating the South West one county at a time, I hope to mirror the unique identity of each county that makes up this region.
